Southeast Asia is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most dynamic electric mobility markets, with electrification moving beyond vehicle adoption towards a broader transformation of manufacturing, supply chains and mobility infrastructure.
According to the IEA’s Global EV Outlook 2026, electric car sales across Southeast Asia more than doubled in 2025 to over half a million vehicles, bringing EVs close to one in every five new cars sold in the region. Growth is being driven across multiple markets, led by Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, alongside accelerating adoption in Malaysia and the Philippines.
At the same time, the region is becoming increasingly important as a manufacturing base. Southeast Asia already represents more than half of Chinese automakers’ overseas vehicle manufacturing footprint, while policy shifts across the region are encouraging greater local assembly and deeper participation in regional supply chains.
